Hey everyone — working on a cutting board that’s a mix of 3 hardwoods. So i set up my jig at 60°. A last and popular method that i didn’t mention in the video is to use a sacrificial piece of wood attached to the board.

It is known for its durability and affordability however, it can dull knives faster than end grain boards. The bowls can be used to measure the amount. When pushed against one side or the other, the cutting board should be level with the granite counter.

The main idea is to create a long piece consisted by several smaller pieces of wood that create a pattern and then once you slice it you can arrange one piece next to the other and create the surface of the cutting board. Since i wanted the final boards to be roughly 16 x 12 and at least 1.25 thick, i then cut the boards down to roughly 18 long at my miter saw.

That means you don’t need a planer or a jointer to make an amazing looking edge grain cutting board with just some clamps and a sander. The piece of wood should oriented so that the grain is either edge grain or face grain facing upwards. These boards were already surfaced on two sides but had a little twist in them, so i ran them through the jointer and squared up one edge before running them through my planer.
