Top End Rebuild 2 Stroke
Hey, this is just a simple question to see how wide of range there is to rebuilding a 2 stroke. A 250 2 stroke for a topend and general going over is around $125 and i can do it in my garage.
You can go longer between top end rebuilds on the larger engines because they are stressed less, run lower rpms, and run cooler.
Top end rebuild 2 stroke. I thought it was around 10 000kms but reading the tpost i see some people are rebuilding them. Personally i wouldn't run a cast piston more than 200 hours or a forged piston longer than 300 hours in a 300 2stroke. Do a compression test to determine the condition of your top end.
It's stuck :dissapointed if anyone has a good step by step guide to a 2 stroke top end rebuild please post links. It all depends on what you call a rebuild. I did a top end rebuild (repair) of a 2.2l engine in my ’90 chevy cavalier.
Remove the seat and gas tank (unless there’s enough room to work with) remove the top motor mount (if necessary) remove the cylinder head; As for reaching the top end you have several components to remove: Bottom end rebuilds will take a lot longer, but they can also be done by anybody with a couple of days to spare.
This bike has very low hours on it but has sat for the last 10 years or. The frequency and complexity of each rebuild will vary depending on many factors, some of which include the type of riding you do, the age of the bike(and/or hours on the motor), quality of parts used, tools available and so on. It depends on what parts need to be replaced and if you’re doing the rebuild yourself or paying someone else to do the work.
Also if anyone knows where i can get the parts i'll need for cheap let me know. It had a brand new top end when i bought it, but one summer and it is seized up. A top end rebuild on a two stroke dirt bike is a basic and routine part of maintaining the health and performance of your machine.
Getting harder to start is definitely a good indicator of top end wear. It is recommended to use non synth for first tank, but i never bother to do it. Lax air filter maintenance can wreak havoc on your top and bottom ends.

Please answer approximately how long it takes you to rebuild your top end and also include the make and model of the bikes you do it on. The cost of rebuilding a 2 stroke dirt bike top end can vary from under $50 to $500+. You'll want a torque wrench and ratchet set.
I have to rebuild the top end on my 92 rm125. You’ll know where to go from there. I don't get anal about it i get my parts ahead of.
Synth is supposed to be too slippery and the rings wont seat as fast, i do run dino in a 4st with new top end tho, maybe i should do it on the 2st too, but it has worked for me since synth came out. On my sons 250f the preseason valve train, topend, timing chain, and general going thru everything else runs about $400. Factors such as water in the gas or an improper fuel/air ratio can cause damage that causes low compression.
Unfortunately, this can wind up costing an arm and a leg, and it really isn't necessary.
